INK

On old bohas, the pihet, the brunidéir, the stump of the pihet, the stump of the wind-holder as well as the wind-holder are made of wood. These different parts are often decorated. Some copies have been decorated with drawings made with ink.

In principle, the ink used is that which was used by schoolchildren or teachers. It was therefore easier to obtain because in the 19th century there were schools in many villages.
The colors used are red, purple and black.

To make this type of decoration, we can observe on the specimens found that the ink is applied to drawings made beforehand by incisions in the wood. It is therefore essential to have a non-fibrous wood to avoid the blotting effect which would prevent a clean drawing.

The technique of applying the ink in the incisions is not known. By placing oneself in the historical context, one can imagine the use of a school pen holder or the tip of a knife. Of course there must be a finishing job to scrape off the overflows of ink and thus give a clearer drawing
