Jean-Germain Lestage

Jean-Germain Lestage born in 1869 in Brocas in what is now the Landes department. A farmer by trade, he played the boha from 12 to 78 years old.

In 1937, a group of dancers and musicians, of which he was a part, was formed to represent the Landes department at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. He also performs regularly with the local folk group.

Unfortunately, he did not wish to transmit his art to his successor, Joseph Barsac (born in 1922). The latter will therefore only have a figurative role until 1960 in this group of Brocas, reformed after the war under the name "Lous Esquiros d´Albret".

Jean-Germain Leqtage

Jean-Germain Lestage died in 1952 at Sen de Labrit (40) at the age of 83.

His Bohaussac

boha-lestage-1

It is complete and includes:

- the lambskin bag turned upside down,
- the pihet in black locust wood (false acacia) inlaid with pewter,
- the two simple reeds of idioglotal reed type,
- the stump of the boxwood inlaid with pewter,
- the removable part of the ash browning,
- the boxwood blowpipe (bohet),
- the stump of the blowpipe encrusted with pewter.

Concerning the skin, there is a doubt because the internal diameter of the stump is much greater than that of the part of the stem which fits into it. So that without the abundantly added tow, the pihet would fit completely into the skin. It therefore seems that these two elements do not constitute the original set.

This instrument, studied on July 05, 2013 by Patrick Burbaud, was donated by his grandson to the Marquèze ecomuseum in Sabers where it is kept under the inventory number: 2005.2.1
