In France, the ICH is the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture.

It centralizes the inventory files for French Intangible Cultural Heritage proposed by the communities representing the area concerned.

It registers these files in the inventory of the national Intangible Cultural Heritage.

He is the only one authorized to present, at the request of local representatives (mayors, deputies ...) and on behalf of the French state, application files with a view to their inclusion in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco.

Following the presentation of an inventory sheet by the Bohaires de Gasconha association,

the "Practice of the bagpipes of the landes of Gascony" (the Boha) was included in the inventory of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014.

Inscription in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco is not possible due to an interruption in the traditional practice after the death in 1957 of the last routine player, Jeanty Benquet.
